Here's what makes Brisa Encuentro's location genuinely rare on the North Coast: you can walk to a world-class surf beach, walk to dinner, walk to yoga — and still come home to a quiet, gated community where the loudest sound is the breeze through the palms.
Most Cabarete rentals force a tradeoff. Stay in town and you get the buzz, but also the traffic, the late-night music, and the parking headaches. Stay further out and you get the peace, but every coffee, every meal, every surf session becomes a drive.
Brisa Encuentro sits in the sweet spot: inside Cayena Residences, a private gated community a 10-minute walk from Encuentro Beach — the DR's most celebrated surf break — with restaurants, yoga, a gym, and a small commercial plaza all within a few minutes on foot. Kite Beach, Cabarete town, and Sosúa are each a short, easy drive when you want them, and entirely out of earshot when you don't.
In other words: everything you came for is close. Everything you came to escape is not.

The Dominican Republic's most iconic surf beach, and the reason serious surfers fly here. Gentle peelers for beginners on the inside, punchy reef setups for advanced surfers further out. Grab a board rental or lesson at Ali's Surf Club or Pura Vida Surf Camp, then refuel with a smoothie bowl at Bonsai Poke or coffee at one of the half-dozen cafés along the beach road.
Best for: Dawn patrols, lazy beach mornings, and the rare luxury of walking home with sand still on your feet.
The small commercial hub just outside our community gate. Inside the plaza you'll find yoga and Pilates studios, a gym, a spin studio, a spa, a small market, and several casual restaurants — plus a community board with classes, events, and local services. It's the kind of amenity that's easy to undervalue until you realize you don't need to drive anywhere to start your day.
A cluster of well-loved spots sits between our community and Encuentro Beach: think wood-fired pizza, fresh-pressed juices, beachfront breakfasts, and sunset cocktail bars. (Our Local Eats guide has the full list with our favorites flagged.)

Home of the Cabarete Kite Festival and some of the world's best kiteboarding schools, including Liquid Blue. Even if you don't kite, it's worth a sunset visit just to watch a hundred kites paint the sky while you sip a mojito at a beachfront bar.
Best for: Kiters, foilers, and spectators who appreciate a good show.
The buzzing heart of Cabarete — beach bars, live music, boutique shops, and dinners served barefoot under string lights. From Le Bistro to LAX Ojo, this is where the day rolls into the night. The beauty of being a quick drive away: you can enjoy every bit of the energy, then drive 8 minutes home to silence.
Best for: Dinner out, dancing, nightlife — on your terms.
Calm, protected turquoise water and a healthy reef just offshore. Rent snorkel gear, order fresh grilled lobster at one of the beachside palapas, and float the afternoon away. The Sosúa side has a completely different feel than Cabarete — more sheltered, more family-friendly, more relaxed.
Best for: Snorkeling, swimming with kids, and a slower-paced beach day.
Lush forests, limestone caves, freshwater lagoons, and the protected ecosystem that sits just behind Cabarete. Hire a local guide to find the hidden cenotes and bat caves — it's one of those experiences guests routinely tell us was the surprise highlight of their trip.
Zip through the canopy, feed capuchin monkeys, and support a project that funds healthcare for nearby communities. A genuinely good half-day, and a favorite with families.

Take the cable car up Mount Isabel de Torres to the botanical gardens and Christ the Redeemer Statue, wander the colonial streets, and tour Fort San Felipe. Pair it with a tasting at the Brugal Rum Distillery for a full, easy day out.
Leap, slide, and swim through 27 cascading limestone waterfalls — the Dominican Republic's natural waterpark. Bring water shoes and a sense of adventure.
Freshwater cenotes, cliff jumps into impossibly blue water, and one of the most beautiful undeveloped beaches on the island. Cap it with grilled snapper at a Playa Grande beach shack.
Pro tip: Pack towels and a bit of cash for the small entrance fee.
A tiny sandbar in the middle of a coral reef, reachable only by boat. Snorkel directly off the sand, sunbathe, and channel your inner castaway. A long day, but unforgettable. Book through a reputable tour company.
Swap palm trees for pine forests. Cool mountain air, white-water rafting, coffee farm tours, and the Salto de Jimenoa waterfall hike. A great overnight if you want a complete change of scenery.
Water slides, a kids' splash zone, private pools, shaded cabanas, and lifeguarded swimming. An easy half-day under the Dominican sun. Pro tip: You can bring your own food, drinks, and towels to keep the day relaxed and on-budget.
Close, family-friendly, and genuinely fun — ziplines through the canopy followed by hand-feeding capuchin monkeys.
